Widnes-born Tom had trials with Liverpool Football Club before he turned his ambitions to rugby league and represented England at both Under-15 and Under-16 levels, winning the Player of the Tournament award in the Under-16 European Cup in 2009. Called up to the England Academy squad in 2011 subsequent knee ligament damage brought an early end to his season and delayed the senior debut that finally came from the bench against London Broncos in 2012 when ‘Gilly’ achieved his ambition of playing for Widnes in Super League. Further experience came in subsequent seasons including loan spells with North Wales Crusaders and the Broncos. Tom returns to Widnes after brief stints with Halifax and Salford before two highly successful years with Batley, reaching the Playoff semi-final in 2021 and Final in 2022, a period he describes as his career highlight while his ambition is to help to get Widnes in contention at the top of the table. Tom has now passed 250 points for his home-town club. Away from rugby Tom, a keen golfer and Liverpool FC supporter, he also runs his own Coffee Shop, Brew Lane, which can be found next to the DCBL Stadium.
