Born in Wigan, Oliver attended St. Peter’s High School and played his junior rugby with Shevington Sharks who he joined at the age of six before joining Widnes at the age of 15. He progressed through the Academy and Reserve teams prior to joining the First Team squad for 2021. Initially spotted by Ryan O’Brien, then Head of Youth Performance, in a try-scoring performance in a National Schools Final ‘Brooksey’ cites O’Brien, Grant Gore and Kurtis Marsh as the major influences on his career to date while the Schools Final and his first Senior contract are the highlights of his fledgling career. After making his breakthrough in 2021, the former 2nd Row Forward is now targeting a regular first team place and a reputation as a regular try-scorer. Away from rugby he is a keen follower of Darts, Formula One and Snooker as well as being a supporter of Liverpool and Brentford while combining his rugby with employment with Altrincham-based Hopewiser.
