Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce the signings of Dan Nixon until the end of the 2027 season, and Jack Hansen until the end of the 2028 season, from fellow Championship side Rochdale Hornets.
Nixon, a 24-year old winger, has made 95 appearances for the Hornets and scored 60 tries.
On signing for the Vikings, Nixon said: “I’m extremely proud to be joining Widnes Vikings and I can’t wait to represent the club and its supporters.
“I’ll give everything I’ve got every time I wear the shirt and always give 110%.
“I’m ready to learn, work hard, and keep developing as a player whilst doing everything I can to make the fans proud.”
Head coach Allan Coleman said: He’s a player I’ve watched since he was 16/17 in the community game, I’ve watched his progression and I really rate him highly.
“He’s a kid with a big future in the game, he’s strong, he can carry the ball really well, and he’s as good as anyone in the air.
“We feel as though we aren’t taking a risk with this, we feel like we’re signing a player who we can have for the next few years which will really bring some stability and some quality to the group.”
Hansen, a 29-year old half-back, has scored five times in 23 appearances for the Hornets, but has previously enjoyed spells at North Wales, Swinton, Sheffield and Halifax.
On signing for the Vikings, Hansen said: “I’m over the moon to have signed for Widnes, it’s not only special for me, but for my family with my dad playing for the club in the 90s and the early 2000s.
“For me to break the news to him that I’ve signed for the club was very special, I can’t wait to get that Hansen name back on the Widnes jersey.
“It was an easy decision for me when Allan (Coleman) approached, I played under him at Swinton, that last year at Swinton was probably my best season, and I think Allan played a big part in that, he just knows how to coach me, knows how to talk to me, and knows what my best attributes are as a rugby player.
“I just can’t wait to run out in-front of them fans, they seem a fantastic bunch, and I can’t wait to hear them cheer for me.”
Head coach Allan Coleman said: “Everyone knows my relationship with Jack, I’ve coached him at Swinton, and he was exceptional for me as a young player.
“Great kicking game, he’s a really good run threat, quick on his feet, and a good try scorer for a halfback, he’ll slot into our group really well.
“He’s got a great attitude and he’ll certainly become a fan favourite that’s for sure.
“I’m really excited, and I’m over the moon to get to work with Jack again.”
