Ryan Ince extends stay with hometown club

Hometown winger Ryan Ince will enter into a 10th season playing for Widnes Vikings after signing a new two-year deal.

The 29-year-old is the club’s top try scorer this season, crossing for 16 tries, including four in the recent win over Dewsbury which included his 100th career try.

He said: “I’m made up. I’m going to go past 10 years at the club now. Every time I’m here, I play good rugby and as you can see at the minute, I’m enjoying it as well which is the main thing.

“I didn’t want to go anywhere else. This is my hometown club. I enjoy my rugby here, I live five minutes around the corner, it was a pretty easy decision.

“I just want to play good rugby, focus on my own job and if I’ve got quality players inside me, I’ll just finish what they give me!”

Ince made his debut back in 2016 in Super League against Hull FC and moved on to first join Leigh in 2020 and then Oldham, before returning to the Vikings ahead of the 2022 campaign. In total, he has scored 93 tries in 139 appearances for Widnes.

Head coach Allan Coleman said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get Incey done. I think he’s shown this year that he’s getting better and better.

“His maturity is massive for us. He’s a key figure, he’s a local lad and a really experienced player now, and he’s showing that in his performances.

“He’s finishing everything. He’s a pleasure to coach, he’s a coach’s dream.

“He gives everything he’s got in training, he gives everything he’s got in the games, and he doesn’t bring any headaches or trouble.

“We’re getting a lot of the squad done now for moving forward, and it shows the intentions of what we’re trying to achieve.”

Ince’s re-signing follows on from recent new deals for fellow academy products Joe Edge and Jordan Johnstone.

Ince is sponsored by Teeling Management.
