Widnes Vikings will go in search of a fifth successive win when they travel to Salford this Sunday in Round 13 of the Betfred Championship (3pm kick-off).
The Vikings dug deep a week ago to come from behind and defeat Sheffield Eagles 16-12 as the club celebrated its Retro Round.
Next up, Allan Coleman’s side will head to Greater Manchester in search of two competition points which would see them move into the top four as a minimum by the end of the weekend.

📰 Squad news
There are three changes to the 21-man squad following last week’s victory over Sheffield.
Kieran Taylor comes into the mix alongside new loan addition Jack Billington. There’s also a place for forward Ryan Brown, who has joined from Leigh Leopards on a one-week loan.
Max Roberts, Nick Gregson and Deacon Connolly are the three who make way.

🥊 The opposition
In what was always expected to be a difficult season for the newly-reformed Salford RLFC, three wins from their opening 10 league games sees them positioned towards the bottom end of the Championship table, albeit just a couple of positive results away from pushing for the top 10.
Back-to-back defeats on the road in league and cup mean Salford come into Sunday’s game keen to find a response.
Their last league win came just under a month ago, with on-loan Vikings half-back Leon Hayes slotting over a dramatic late drop-goal to see them overcome Batley Bulldogs 29-28 at the CorpAcq Stadium.
Salford RLFC 21-man squad: Cole Appleby, Joe Baldwin, Jack Bibby, Sam Bowring, Shaun Costello, James Duffy, Brad Dwyer, Ollie Garmston, Keane Gilford, Callum Green, Owen Haldenby, Joe Hartley, Sam Hill, Toby Hughes, Cole Oakley, Lewis Pilling, Isaac Reid, Daniel Sarbah, Harry Smith, Jenson Windley, Fin Yates.
⏪ Record against Salford
You have to go all the way back to 2021 for the last time these two sides met in a competitive fixture.
Each of the last five meetings between the two sides have been won by the home side, including the most recent fixture which saw Salford – under their previous guise – defeat Widnes 68-4 in the third round of the Betfred Challenge Cup.
The last league meeting between the sides outside of Super League saw the points shared in a 16-16 draw back in April 2008.
Last five meetings:
- Salford 68-4 Widnes (Challenge Cup R3, 10/4/21)
- Salford 32-6 Widnes (Super 8s qualifiers R2, 18/8/18)
- Salford 26-12 Widnes (Super League R18, 14/6/18)
- Widnes 24-16 Salford (Super League R7, 22/3/18)
- Salford 30-10 Widnes (Super League R12, 30/4/17)
