Local lad James originally joined Widnes after playing his junior rugby with West Bank Bears, initially at the age of 4 and returning at 14, and the Heath Technology College student went on to represent the North West Under 15 side while progressing through the club’s Academy to the first team. His career highlights include the 1895 Cup semi-final victory at Leigh, the win at Wigan in 2016 and winning the League 1 championship with Oldham in 2024. Returning to the Vikings after representing Newcastle and Oldham and an abortive link-up with the ill-fated Ottawa club he acknowledged the help of the Academy coaches, and senior players Hep Cahill, Willie Isa and Magraff Leuluai as major influences on his career, while his ambition is a return to Super League. Making his senior bow against Leigh in the ‘Super 8s’ in 2015. ‘Jay’ also turned out for Whitehaven on Dual Registration and Super League and Challenge Cup debuts came in 2016 for the Vikings, while he starts 2026 within sight of club and career appearance milestones. Away from rugby Jay is a Personal Trainer and Gym owner who has represented Cheshire at Tennis, follows Liverpool FC and enjoys playing golf.
