Recap
Widnes lost out by 32 points to six on a disappointing day in York, as Simon Finnigan’s side suffered consecutive league defeats after winning their first four.
Widnes made several changes to their side from last week’s match, as Joe Edge came in at centre with Matt Fleming moving out to the wing, Jack Owens returning at full-back, Kenny Baker and Eribe Doro coming in as starting props and Adam Lawton making his first start this year.
The hosts opened the scoring on 13 minutes after taking advantage of a gap on the Widnes right wing, Matty Marsh crossing from full-back.
Adam Lawton showed amazing skill on the right side ten minutes later to get Widnes off the mark, picking up his own kick along the grass to score, but the hosts responded almost immediately with a try from Brendan O’Hagan.
The Knights edged further ahead on the half-hour mark with another from Brad Ward to take the half-time scores to 16-6.
York extended their lead further ten minutes after the break when Marsh got his second of the day, before Marcus Stock got over the line under the sticks on 66 minutes to make it 28.
The Knights added another with full-time approaching, Levi Edwards weaving through to complete a disappointing showing from the Vikings.
