Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that Lloyd Roby has committed his future to the club for the 2020 season.
Lloyd joined the club at 14 years of age, and has represented Widnes Vikings at every stage of the club’s pathway after signing from Rylands Sharks. Lloyd also represented Crosfields ARLFC during his community days.
Lloyd made his debut for the club on the wing in a Challenge Cup tie away at Warrington Wolves in 2017, but 2019 is the year in which the 20-year old has come into his own.
Roby has played 24 games for the Vikings in all, with 23 of those coming during the 2019 season. Lloyd has played in a number of positions for the Vikings during the season, emphasising his quality and versatility that he brings to the first team squad.
Lloyd finished the 2019 season with 14 tries in 24 appearances, the third highest tryscorer in the squad last season, and was the 17th inductee into the Vikings’ Club 20 initiative.
Lloyd Roby commented, “I’m delighted to have signed a new deal with the club, and I can’t wait to get back started ahead of the 2020 season.
“Last year was a good season for me on a personal note, I managed to break into Club 20 and I gained some valuable experience playing in the Championship.
“I want to repay the club for their faith in me, from bringing me through the academy system and helping me progress to the first-team.
“Working under Tim Sheens is something I am really excited about, he is one of the best coaches in the world and I’m sure he will get the best out of me and the rest of the lads.
“I’m hoping for a big season in 2020 where I’ll be looking to try and cement my place in the 17, and I can’t wait to get back out there in front of our fans.”
Big thank you to Richard Bamber of Anthony’s Travel for their sponsorship of Lloyd Roby for the 2020 season.
