Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce the appointment of Brad Fussell to the board of directors.
Brad joins the board as a director and shareholder following completion of due diligence by the club and the Rugby Football League.
Brad is based in Sydney, Australia, and will give Widnes a key footing there with a view of recruitment, marketing and the behind-the-scenes business strategies at the club.
Brad is a successful business owner having built and run businesses in sport and development for 30 years both in Australia and Los Angeles. Brad travels regularly to the UK with his program at Wanderers Australia in rugby league and has great connections here locally.
Brad fell in love with Widnes in his younger days watching Widnes in Challenge Cup finals on TV in the midnight hours in Sydney, with Widnes matching the colours of his hometown club, the Western Suburbs Magpies.
On joining the Vikings board of directors, he said: “I am honoured to have become a custodian of this great club as a shareholder, investor and now director.
“I have been in deep discussions confidentially with my fellow directors about coming on board for over eight months now, and have been watching intently at developments on and off the field.
“I hope that not only my financial contribution but also willingness to invest in a club I am passionate about is a sign of confidence in the current leadership and a vote of confidence in the great work that Allan, his staff and the players are doing in 2026.
“I see a tremendous amount of opportunity here at the club to transform it back into a powerhouse of English Rugby League, as it was over multiple generations since 1895. To be a part of one of the original clubs that formed the Northern Union all those years ago is a privilege and a responsibility that I do not take on lightly.
“I hope my investment and some business and marketing ideas behind the scenes will benefit the club in the long term. I have a particular interest in getting local kids the opportunity to represent their local club and town, and continue to build on the pathways in Cheshire for young boys and girls to play for the Vikings.
“It is my intention to be over very soon to watch the club live and in-person for the first time in many years, and I am excited about having the opportunity to listen to members and fans on how we can all continue and improve the great work those on the board, the office and the coaching and playing staff have been doing this year.”
Director Rod Steele first met Brad when his travelling supporter group visited Halton Farnworth Hornets during a tour of the UK.
The pair met again during the international series, where discussions about Brad becoming involved with the club began.
Steele commented: “I was struck by Brad’s knowledge and close attention to the affairs and fortunes of the club along with his business acumen, which should assist the club moving forward”.
We look forward to introducing Brad to the Vikings faithful very soon.
