Widnes Vikings returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon, defeating Goole Vikings 52-0 at Victoria Pleasure Grounds.
After a slightly laboured start to the game, Widnes opened the scoring after 13 minutes, going through hands on the last and eventually finding Frank Sergent, who was able to stroll over in the corner on debut.
After a period of Goole pressure, Allan Coleman’s side extended their lead after 31 minutes. Jack Billington found an offload to Danny Richardson on his way to the ground, who then played a looping pass for Tom Gilmore to finish off the move.
The Vikings knew points had been left on the table in the first half so looked to start the second 40 quickly, and they did when Adam Lawton took a short pass from Gilmore and crashed his way over the line.
Widnes scored again when Matty Fozard took the ball out of dummy-half and bolted his way to the line.
Five minutes later, Gilmore found a line break and passed over his left shoulder to Nathan Connell, who raced over.
The Vikings were really looking to put Goole to the sword, and they scored again when Danny Richardson took the ball 15m out and dummied his way to the line.
Goole were starting to tire from their efforts in the first half, as a flurry of tries came in the last 10 minutes. Richardson applied a short pass to Danny Langtree, who then crashed over.
Two minutes later, the Vikings found themselves with numbers on the left edge, which allowed Max Roberts to dive over for a try.
Four minutes from time, Richardson doubled his tally for the afternoon, arriving as support for Fozard’s line break to take a short pass and stroll over.
Widnes rounded off the scoring for the afternoon when Mike Butt touched the ball down in the left corner on the hooter, marking his 250th career appearance with a try.
