Report: Widnes Vikings 46-0 Dewsbury Rams

Widnes Vikings picked up a seventh consecutive win, scoring 46 points without response to beat Dewsbury Rams in Round 15 of the Betfred Championship.

The deadlock was broken after just four minutes. An early penalty for the Vikings brought them close. Nathan Connell looked to be dragged down just short of the line, but the fullback managed a quick offload to Ryan Ince, who applied his trademark finish in the corner.

It took 12 minutes for the Vikings to score again; they shifted the ball well across to Ryan Ince, who beat a Dewsbury defender to cross over the line.

Widnes then turned defence into attack. Joe Edge intercepted the ball on his own 10 metre line and raced nearly the full length of the pitch, leaving Dewsbury defenders in his wake.

Eight minutes later, Widnes added to their advantage, a short ball out of acting half from Matty Fozard was pounced on by Danny Langtree to stretch the advantage further.

Allan Coleman’s side were quick out of the blocks in the second half, a clever kick from Tom Gilmore was fumbled by Dewsbury in their own in-goal, leaving Kieran Taylor with an easy score.

The Vikings then went back-to-back, a nice burst up the middle from Jack Owens, who handed off to Edge, who then set up Mike Butt in the corner.

Widnes were over once again, Jack Owens put a clever kick in behind, which was touched down by Joe Edge for his second of the afternoon.

Allan Coleman’s side were really starting to turn the screw. Max Roberts found a clever line break, handed off to Butt, who then found Ryan Ince to cross for his third of the afternoon.

Five minutes later, Ince was in again, Vikings moved the ball well from the scrum to find Ince, who handed off a Rams defender to score in the corner.

It was the Skipper who rounded off the Widnes scoring for the afternoon. Owens took a hand-off from Fozard and raced under the posts to cap a dominant performance.
