As well as winning the two most recent Player of the Month awards, Jordan Abdull and Nathan Connell have something else in common – their player sponsor, West End Motors.
Dave Spruce of West End Motors was invited behind the scenes this week to a Vikings training session, where he was given a guided tour of the facilities by head coach Allan Coleman, met the first team squad and was able to present Jordan and Nathan with their mementos for winning the February and March Player of the Month awards respectively.
The Player of the Month awards are awarded based on the fans’ Player of the Match votes for the month in question.
A long-time sponsor of the Vikings through West End Motors, Dave has a lifetime link to the club having been born a mere stone’s throw away, at 94 Lowerhouse Lane.
And he was impressed. He said: “It’s quite modern and they’re very enthusiastic about everything.
“Lisa, one of my daughters, picked the players to sponsor. She’s the most avid fan you’ve got. She’s ruthlessly avid!
“I was born in Lowerhouse Lane. My uncle played in the team many years ago and through the years we brought the children and it’s just proceeded from there. Even my great grandson comes to watch now.
“I’m a hometown boy. It’s as simple as that. It doesn’t matter the state of the game, you can’t win all the time can you? But you can be happy all the time. If they come along and play great and somebody beats you, so what? It’s most important that we stay together.
“I actually live closer to Warrington than Widnes and I used to do a lot of work with some of the Warrington team on their vehicles, but support comes this way not that way!”
