AUCTION: WIDNES RLFC SILVER SALVER

We are offering supporters and collectors a rare opportunity to bid for an extraordinary piece of Widnes RLFC memorabilia, a prestigious silver salver with a truly remarkable story.

At our recent 1975 Challenge Cup Anniversary celebration, we proudly showcased this one-of-a-kind piece. It was originally presented to legendary coach Vince Karalius by his players as a heartfelt “thank you” for leading the team through the 1974–75 season, described on the inscription as: “The most successful season in the 101 years of the club’s history.”

Every player’s signature from that iconic squad is engraved into the surface, making it a truly irreplaceable keepsake for any Widnes supporter or rugby league historian.

Crafted in Sheffield by E.H. Parkin & Co. Silversmiths, the salver carries a crown hallmark, the passant lion signifying 92.5% silver purity, and the date letter “G” confirming it was assayed in 1974. It stands as much as a work of fine craftsmanship as it does a piece of sporting heritage.

The salver was generously donated to the club by Mrs Barbara Karalius, widow of Vince, with the aim of raising vital funds for Widnes RLFC. During the anniversary dinner, it was placed on display and auctioned via sealed bids.

Those bids remain securely stored, and we are now inviting further sealed offers.

Bids can be submitted in writing to the DCBL Stadium with ‘Sealed Auction Bid’ written on the envelope or online via the form below…

The deadline for receipt is midnight on Friday, 22 August.

Due to its historical importance, provenance, and intrinsic value, a realistic reserve price has been set.

This is a rare chance to own an iconic piece of Widnes RLFC’s proud past — and, in doing so, contribute directly to the club’s future.
