Widnes Vikings are pleased to confirm that John Foran is the fifth inductee into the club’s prestigious Hall of Fame, joining an elite group of players being honoured as part of the 1975 Challenge Cup 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Foran will be officially inducted at the event on Friday, 11th July, in the Bridge Suite at the DCBL Stadium, and will be in attendance on the night to mark the occasion.
A tough, no-nonsense forward with remarkable consistency and resilience, Foran made 293 appearances for Widnes, crossing for 38 tries and contributing 114 points during his time with the club.
Known for his strength in defence and tireless work rate, Foran played a key role in laying the platform for the club’s success during the 1970s, establishing himself as a fan favourite and an integral part of a formidable pack.
Foran also served as Widnes assistant coach to David Hulme and Neil Kelly.
His honours include:
-
🏆 Challenge Cup Winner – 1975
-
🏆 Lancashire Cup Winner – 1975
-
🏆 John Player Trophy Winner – 1976
While his honours list may be shorter than some of his contemporaries, Foran’s influence and presence during a pivotal period in the club’s history cannot be overstated.
His Hall of Fame induction serves as recognition of the vital role he played in the club’s rise to prominence.
