Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce our first new signing for the 2025 season, as Swinton Lions forward Gavin Bennion arrives at the DCBL Stadium on a one-year deal.
The Welsh International prop has made 89 appearances over two spells with Swinton, scoring 12 tries, and brings a wealth of experience to the Vikings pack in 2025.
On his decision to join the Vikings, Bennion said: “When I was approached about the possibility of signing a deal with Widnes Vikings, it was something that really excited me.
“It’s a massive club and a rugby town, with a big fan base. The club is definitely on the way up to where it belongs, so it was a no-brainer for me.
“I think the opportunity to play in a well-established team with some great players around me, backed by a good coaching team, will really help my game.”
He added: “I’m hoping to bring some more size and power to our pack, along with aggression and a good work ethic. I just can’t wait to join up with the lads and get stuck in straight away.
“After such a successful 2024 season, I think we can go even further next year. Hopefully, we can be playing at Wembley in the 1895 Cup Final, be challenging for the top 3, and even a Grand Final.”
The Warrington-born forward made 17 appearances for the Lions in 2024, scoring one try.
Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “It’s a fantastic signing for the club. Gavin is a big, aggressive middle and will bring plenty of experience to our pack.
“Having coached him previously, I know him very well and believe he will fit our club ethos. He wants to test himself and he’s coming for the right reasons, so I’m over the moon to get Gav.”
