Last Saturday the DCBL Stadium saw a brilliant game of Physical Disability Rugby League between Team Colostomy UK and Chorley Panthers.
The contest not only showcased the spirit of unity within the sporting community but also highlighted the significance of supporting individuals with stomas. The event emphasised the importance of understanding and acceptance by coming together to raise awareness and show solidarity.
The match was a display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, underscoring the resilience and talent of all the players involved.
It served as a platform to shine a light on the challenges faced by individuals with stomas and the importance of creating a more inclusive society.
Simon Fox, Vikings Foundation Director said: “The Inclusion Round is a special one for the Vikings Foundation and we were delighted to welcome Team Colostomy UK as part of that celebration.
“The quality of the game and intensity from both teams demonstrated how important it was to everybody and showcased that stomas and physical disabilities aren’t a barrier to enjoyment or competition.”
Giovanni Cinque of Colostomy UK said: “Team Colostomy UK games are all about creating impact and raising awareness about stomas.
“We certainly had that last Saturday, and in the build-up to our game at Widnes Vikings. From the website stories, and social media shout outs, to the pre-game Tannoy announcements, and of course our game itself, thanks to the support of the Vikings we were introduced to a new audience, many of whom won’t have been aware of our team and of what stomas are and why people need them.
“Our team had a great day too. It was a real privilege for them to be able to play at such a brilliant venue, and it’s a little thank you from us, as a reward for their commitment in travelling across the country each year to represent Team Colostomy UK.”
Kav Ellison, Player for Chorley Panthers said: “This is our fifth year of playing Team Colostomy UK, and it was great to be able to freshen the game up by taking it to the DCBL stadium.
“It was a real honour for our lads to be the opposition and to continue to support Team Colostomy UK.
“There are really close links both on and off the pitch between both organisations, and we’d love to have the opportunity to take on the Purps again at Widnes in the future.”
