Widnes Vikings captain Jack Owens has been crowned Sleeptight Beds Player of the Month for May.
Owens played in all three of the Vikings’ May fixtures, stepping into the halves against Batley Bulldogs and Featherstone Rovers before returning to his more natural position of full-back against Swinton Lions at the Betfred Championship Summer Bash.
In that fixture, he grabbed two tries and as many assists as the Vikings turned on the style at York’s LNER Community Stadium.
He becomes the fourth player to receive the accolade this season, following in the footsteps of Shane Grady (February), Ryan Ince (March) and Matty Fozard (April).
Reflecting on the month, Owens said: “We’ve had a mixed bag of results, which isn’t ideal. I was buzzing when I got back to full-back, being totally honest, for that game at the Bash.
“Personally, I wasn’t too happy with the Batley game and felt I could’ve contributed more, but I was happy with my performance at the Bash, as we were at a team. It was nice to sign off [the month] with a good win.”
