Widnes Vikings Women are ramping up preparations ahead of their opening League One fixture with Illingworth this Sunday (2pm).
After a comfortable 32-10 victory in their pre-season fixture against Leamington Royals, the ladies set their sights on a trip to West Yorkshire for Head Coach Dom Dean’s first competitive game in charge.
It’s a big first test for the Vikings who face the back-to-back League One Grand Final winners.
Ahead of the season opener, Dean said: “The girls have worked extremely hard over what’s been a long preseason.
“Preparations have gone extremely well; We’ve been in since the start of November and everyone is ready to get stuck in.
“We’ve had a positive recruitment drive in the off-season, and we’ve strengthened really well.”
He added: “Game week preparations are going well, the mood in camp is relaxed and ready to go.
“We know the challenges Illingworth brings, they’ve won back-to-back League 1 grand finals, and that deserves huge respect.
“Illingworth will give us their best this weekend but if we play like we can, I’m sure the result will look after itself.”
