Vikings secure landmark sponsorship agreement with Wickes

We’re delighted to announce that UK hardware and home improvement giants Wickes are on board with the Vikings in 2024, and branding for their new store in Widnes will feature on the club’s new jerseys next season.

Opening at Bowers Retail Park, just a stone’s throw from the DCBL Stadium, the new Wickes store will provide Widnes and the surrounding areas with a wide range of trade and domestic hardware, while also supporting the Vikings as we gear up for the 2024 season!

Opening for the first time at 9am on Friday, October 13th, a raft of Wickes executives were in attendance alongside the Mayor of Halton Valerie Hill, as well as our very own Players’ and Coaches’ Player of the Year, Joe Edge!

Cutting the ribbon to declare the store officially open alongside the Mayor, Edgey said of the sponsorship, “It’s massive; Wickes are a company known internationally and I think having their branding on board, with how big they are, is a huge positive and can really help the club.”

“This store will attract lots of people both within and outside Widnes, and with the club advertised around here, any potential new fans might be more encouraged to pop over the road and watch a game!”

“Everything’s new at the club at the minute, we’re getting several new players and coaching staff, and with such a big sponsor as Wickes on board too, that can only be beneficial as we get the new era up and running in 2024.”

We also spoke with Harry Kendal from Wickes’ marketing team, who commented “Widnes Vikings are obviously a massive part of this area, and so joining up with the club the popularity it has will also help bring more attention to the store itself, and we’ll enjoy a good partnership in the year to come.”

“Having Widnes on board is a huge benefit for us, and a brilliant way for us to immerse ourselves in the local area, and we can’t wait to welcome members of the fanbase into the new store!”

The new Widnes Wickes store manager Kev Jones is also excited about the sponsorship: “We wanted to get involved with all things local, and given that rugby is massive in the Widnes area, reaching out to the Vikings was a no brainer.”

“I think it’ll be good for both parties, seeing some of the players in here shopping with us hopefully, and I can’t wait to turn up to a match with some Wickes colleagues!”

We’re really looking forward to this exciting partnership for the upcoming season, and with new kits to be announced and put on sale in the coming weeks and months, we can’t wait to see how the Wickes logo will look alongside that of the Vikings.

The store is open for business as of today, so get down to Bowers Retail Park to see what all the fuss is about!
