At the heart of our club lies a powerful force for good: The Vikings Foundation, the official charity arm of Widnes Vikings.
But did you know just how far the Foundation’s impact reaches? Here’s a closer look at the incredible work taking place every day thanks to your support.
Changing Lives Through Sport
Every year, the Foundation engages thousands of school children across Halton, aged 5 to 18, through its innovative and inspiring sports programmes. These initiatives are designed to help young people lead healthier, more active lives, while building confidence, teamwork and wellbeing through rugby league.
A New Era of Wheelchair Rugby League
2024 marked the launch of the Vikings Wheelchair Rugby League team, a ground-breaking step forward in inclusive sport. With over 20 players of all ages now signed up, the team proudly competes in the Rugby League Championship West, showcasing skill, spirit and resilience on the national stage.
Developing the Future of the Game
This year also saw the successful relaunch of the Rugby League Development programme, with more than 320 young players enrolled in the 2024 Future Vikings Programme. This initiative is building a stronger future for rugby league in our region and was honoured with ‘Best in Class’ recognition by the RFL for its outstanding work in Community Cohesion.
Supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing
The Extra Time Group meets every Tuesday at the DCBL Stadium, offering a welcoming space for people of all ages to focus on their mental health and well-being. Whether it’s through physical activity, connection, or conversation, the programme is making a real difference.
A Regional Reach
Beyond Halton, the Foundation also delivers inclusion and sports projects across the City of Liverpool Region, from Fazakerley to Liverpool John Moores University, and down to Runcorn—bringing the values and benefits of rugby league to even more communities.
Events That Inspire
Throughout the year, the Foundation invites hundreds of children and young people to attend and participate in special games and festivals at the DCBL Stadium—unforgettable experiences that help inspire a love for sport and teamwork.
Women’s and Disability Rugby League
The Widnes Vikings Women’s Team, operating under the Foundation’s umbrella, continues to grow and thrive, offering pathways from junior to First Team level for female athletes.
Meanwhile, our Learning Disability Rugby League (LDRL) Team is recognised as one of the best in the sport, regularly attending festivals and community events, and celebrating achievements with their much-loved annual Celebration and Awards Evening.
