New Vikings recruit Dan Nixon has spoken to club media for the first time since joining the club.
The 24-year-old winger signed from Rochdale Hornets until the end of the 2027 season and expressed his delight to be joining the club.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining the Vikings for the 2027 season, this is a club with huge potential, and I’m looking forward being a part of what we can potentially achieve together,” he said.
Nixon spent six seasons at Rochdale, featuring 96 times and scoring 60 tries, and despite high praise for his former club, he believes now is the perfect time in his career for a new challenge:
“I’ve loved every minute of my time at Rochdale, and I’ll always be grateful for the experiences and relationships I’ve built there. However, I feel as if I’m at an important stage in my career where I want to challenge myself, step outside my comfort zone, and really push myself to that next level.
“I feel as though I’m playing my best rugby, and I see this as the perfect environment to test myself.
The 24-year-old also had high praise for Allan Coleman, and believes the Widnes head coach will play a vital role in helping him further develop his game:
“I’ve had some positive conversations with Allan (Coleman) before signing, he outlined his vision for the team, what he wants to build, and where he sees me fitting into that.
“He also spoke highly about my development over the last couple of seasons and how I can take my game to the next level.
“Those conversations have given me a real understanding of the direction the club is heading in and made me even more eager to be a part of it.”
Nixon featured in the 1895 Cup semi-final which saw the Vikings beat Rochdale 52-0 to book their place in the final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The atmosphere of that afternoon left a lasting impression on the winger, and he cites it as one the key reasons behind his decision to join the club:
“Having played against Widnes last season, I managed to get a real feel for the atmosphere of the stadium, as well as the incredible loyalty of the supporters. It’s something that really stood out to me, and knowing I’ll have that backing behind me is something I’m really looking forward to.
“I honestly can’t wait to play in front of them (Widnes fans) I think there’s something special about playing in front of a big, vocal crowd. The supporters can make a huge difference, particularly in those tough, gritty games when you just need that extra push.”

The winger signed off by issuing a message to the Widnes faithful, promising to give his all for his new badge:
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to join such a great club, and I can’t wait to pull on the shirt and run out in front of you all for the first time. I know how passionate and loyal you are, and I just want you to know that I’ll give absolutely everything every time I step onto the field.
“Hopefully we can achieve some big things in 2027, create some fantastic memories and give you plenty to be proud of, I’m ready to give 110% for this town, this badge, and this club.”
