Following Sunday’s away loss at Barrow Raiders, the Vikings head into the first of two consecutive home fixtures at the DCBL Stadium. This week sees York City Knights travel to Cheshire to take on a Widnes side looking to rectify a dip in form over recent games.
York are coming into the game on the back of a hard-fought win against London Broncos at the LNER Community Stadium in a game which went down to the final five minutes. The Broncos heading into the half time break 18-6 up, but a second half blitz from the Knights and a late Liam Harris try put the hosts two scores ahead with five minutes to go, giving the York side the victory.
The Vikings will be boosted by the return of club captain Jack Owens after completing his rehab programme and having ticked all of the boxes needed to be back contention to be in the match day squad.
Shane Grady is also getting closer to a return to the field and will be aiming to be available for selection for the next home game against London Broncos.
Lloyd Roby went for a scan on a knee injury he sustained in the Sheffield Eagles game and the results have determined that Lloyd will unfortunately be out of action for 4-6 weeks.
Olly Brookes’ hamstring injury will result in a long term period on the sidelines for him. Olly will be under the guidance of the clubs medical staff throughout his rehab programme before returning to the field.
Levy Nzoungou is progressing well with his recovery from an achilles injury suffered in the earlier part of the season.
Josh Johnson is still working with the physio and strength and conditioning staff with a knee injury. Josh is progressing well with his rehab programme and a further guide on his return to play date will be announced in due course.
Ste Tyrer picked up a shoulder issue in the game against Bradford so missed the Barrow game with the short turnaround of three days. Ste will be assessed this week with the medical team and a decision will be made on his availability later in the week.
After missing the game on Sunday, Kenny Baker, Jake Spedding, Dec Gregory and Liam Bent will all be available for selection for this week’s match.
