Team Talk – York City Knights (A) Preview

2022 Widnes Vikings Team Talk - Leigh Centurions home preview

Heading into this week’s Betfred Championship Round 6 clash against York City Knights, the Vikings will be looking to get back to winning ways following a disappointing performance against Barrow Raiders. Let’s take a look at how the squad is shaping up for the game…

Forwards

Shane Grady suffered a knee injury at the latter end of the Barrow game and has since been for a scan. We’re awaiting the scan results to determine the length of time he will be on the sidelines.

Levy Nzoungou suffered an achilles injury in training and has been to a consultant who has confirmed that he will unfortunately be out of action long-term. He will be supported by the medical staff in the next steps of his rehab programme and treatment.

Owen Farnworth will return to action this week after overcoming a foot injury that has seen him sidelined since Round One.

Kenny Baker will also be back in the side after serving his one-match suspension.

Backs

Ollie Brookes is progressing from a hamstring injury suffered in the Challenge Cup tie against Leigh Centurions. He is around three to four weeks away from a return to full fitness.

Captain Jack Owens is back in contention to be in the squad and will be ready to play on Sunday against York. His return will come as a timely boost for the Vikings.

Danny Craven will also return from a hamstring injury sustained against Halifax which has seen him sidelined for the past month.

Of the 27 players in the playing squad, we have everyone up and available for selection other than Shane and Levy, who we will get behind and support throughout their rehab programmes.
