We are disappointed to confirm we have been informed that only 100 tickets will be available for visiting supporters at this Monday’s game (23rd May, 7.45pm kick-off), after safety measures at Sheffield Eagles’ new home, the Olympic Legacy Park, were reassessed.
Our away support is fantastic and this disappointing decision will impact both supporters and players alike in what was already a challenging fixture on a Monday night.
The announcement comes following a last-minute reduction of the capacity of Sheffield’s new stadium to just 700 for the fixture.
We understand that the late notice of this news will cause disruption to supporters who have made arrangements for the fixture on Monday; our supporters may have booked travel, accommodation, and booked time off work for the fixture. We are disappointed to have been informed of this decision at this notice, which has been completely out of our control.
Operational rules state that away teams should receive a minimum of 200 tickets (based on 10% regulations for a minimum Betfred Championship stadium capacity of 2,000), as per section A3:31 of the Operational Rules for 2022. Several alternative options were proposed to meet this minimum allocation for away fans, including playing the fixture at an alternative venue which could accommodate a larger attendance, but the decision was taken by the RFL board on Wednesday evening that Sheffield would allocate us just 100 away tickets.
We have decided that the fairest way to distribute our limited allocation is on a first-come first-serve basis for Season Ticket holders only initially, with supporters asked to visit the ticket window with their Season Ticket at the DCBL Stadium any time from now until 8pm today (Thursday 19th May).
We will sell the tickets on the basis of one ticket per Season Ticket card. Supporters are asked to bring correct change or to pay by card to make the process quicker for everyone and prevent queuing.
If there are any tickets remaining not purchased by Season Ticket holders during these times, they will be available to non-Season Ticket holders also from our Club Shop at Widnes Market during its usual opening hours this Friday 20th May (10am-4pm) and Saturday 21st May (10am-3pm).
We will update supporters via social media regarding the availability of tickets as we sell them.
Although it is a disappointing situation from our point of view, we must advise supporters not to travel if they cannot obtain a ticket.
