New Widnes Vikings recruit Ryan Millar says he has no doubts that the squad can compete at the very top end of the Betfred Championship.
Millar recently signed a one-year deal with the club, having left fellow Championship side Bradford Bulls at the end of the 2022 season.
The 28-year-old has already started training with his new team-mates and admits he’s settled well into life in new surroundings.
And with the 2023 season rapidly approaching, Millar’s attention has already turned to the club’s ambitions for the upcoming campaign.

“With this squad, it’s not about keeping up with other teams,” he said.
“I’m sure we want to be right at the top of the league, and I’ve got no doubt that we’ll be able to do that with this group of players.
“Everyone is pushing in the same direction, the attitude is great and there are some quality players there.
“There are no easy weeks anymore in the Championship. It’s going to be hard, so we need to make sure we’re hitting our straps every week.”
A significant recruitment drive during the off-season means competition for places is high.
Millar, who spent seven seasons with Sheffield Eagles prior to his move to Bradford, knows he needs to kick on if he wants to cement a spot in John Kear’s matchday squad on a regular basis.
“I’ve said a couple of times that I wasn’t too happy with my performances last year.

“I thought I could’ve been more consistent, more dynamic, but the same could’ve been said for the whole squad at Bradford.
“I’m looking forward to playing better this year.”
On the Vikings’ depth, Millar added: “It’s a great squad, loads of competition for places.
“The attitude is really good. You can see that everyone really wants to work hard, and that’s a great thing.
“Now I’ve signed, it’s all about training well and trying to get a starting spot.”
