Local lad Brett, a former pupil of Saints Peter and Paul High School, began playing rugby at the age of 6 with Halton Farnworth Hornets before switching to rugby union with Liverpool Collegiate from the ages of 12 to 15. He then returned to rugby league representing Simms Cross Open Age and HFH under 18s prior to joining the St Helens Academy, appearing in two Reserve Finals for Saints and winning the Reserve Player of the Year Award in 2023. While recognising his brother as the biggest influence on his career Brett names signing his first contract with St Helens, making his debut for his boyhood club Widnes, and his senior grade debut with Whitehaven as the highlights of his fledgling career while his ambition is to secure a regular place in the Vikings first team. Away from rugby he enjoys hiking and is currently an apprentice electrician.
