Widnes Vikings can confirm that forward Owen Farnworth has signed a new two-year deal with the club to keep him at the DCBL Stadium until at least 2023.
‘Farnsy’ joined the Widnes academy aged 14, and made his first team debut against Leeds Rhinos in Super League in 2017 after representing England Youth and England Academy.
Since advancing through the Widnes set-up, Farnworth has become one of the Vikings’ most important forwards and has played a key role for Simon Finnigan’s team this season averaging over 10 carries and 30 tackles per game.
On signing his new deal, Owen commented: “I’m made up to be staying at the club. I’m looking forward to working under Simon (Finnigan) for the next two years.”
“I’ve been at the club since I was 14 years old so everything for me has just been class and I’m happy to sign for another two years.”
Owen joined from community club Chorley Panthers when he first linked up with the academy, and said he was the only player from the club to join the Vikings at the time but said he has made friends for life at Widnes.
Farnsy also stated feeling at home in Widnes for one of the reasons for extending his stay. “I feel like I’m adopted here now really!”
“It’s been an up and down season,” the forward added. “Next year we’ll come back here and as a team, and we make that team a family again and we build on there.”
Owen Farnworth is proudly sponsored by MTC Couriers for the 2021 season.
