Olly Davies extends Vikings stay

Widnes Vikings second-rower Olly Davies has agreed a new one-year deal with the club, keeping him at the DCBL Stadium until the end of the 2023 season.

Davies, 26, joined the Vikings ahead of the 2022 Betfred Championship campaign, having spent the previous four seasons with Sheffield Eagles.

The Billinge-born forward made 28 appearances in total last season, scoring seven tries.

Davies worked his way through the youth ranks of St Helens earlier in his career, before going on to make his first team debut in a Challenge Cup tie against York City Knights in 2015.

A season at Swinton Lions followed in 2017, prior to his move to the Eagles.

He has quickly become an integral part of John Kear’s first team squad and will now remain with the Vikings as preparations continue ahead of the new campaign.

On the new deal, he said: “There was no question in my mind about what I wanted to do next year. I love it here and I don’t want to be anywhere else.

“As soon as I got the word that the club wanted to keep me, I got in touch with my agent and tried to get it done as soon as possible.
