REPORT: DEWSBURY RAMS 6-24 WIDNES VIKINGS

The Vikings made it 3/3 to start the Championship season this afternoon after defeating Dewsbury Rams 24-6 at FLAIR Stadium.

Allan Coleman’s side ran in four tries and held Dewsbury to a single score, in blustery conditions as we continued our 100% start to the league campaign.

The Vikings took the lead through Jordan Johnstone who sniped over from close range after a strong carry from Danny Langtree.

Langtree then went from provider to scorer as he steamed onto a deft short pass from Nick Gregson to extend the lead to 12-0 at half-time.

The Vikings asserted their dominance further in the second half as Matty Fozard twice forced his way over from dummy half to see us into a 22-0 lead,

Dewsbury got one back through Jimmy Beckett as he took a short pass to stroll over by the posts.

Danny Langtree was then sent to the bin for the Vikings however the defence stood up to hold the Rams at bay.

A penalty allowed Tom Gilmore to add two points that would prove to be the final score of the day as the Vikings ran out comfortable 24-6 winners.

COACHES COMMENTS

Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “I’m made up. I just thought we dug deep today.

“In that first half, it wasn’t fantastic and we made a lot of errors. Our word at half-time was that we were feeding them and giving them glimpses that they could get something from us.

“But I just thought we showed some grit and determination as a group. I keep saying it, but this group will always give me everything they’ve got.

“We were smart at times and didn’t panic, we defended well as a group and we’ll always score points.”
