LIAM KIRK DEPARTS VIKINGS

Widnes Vikings can confirm that Liam Kirk has left the club with immediate effect.

Kirk, 28, joined the Vikings ahead of the 2024 season from Sheffield Eagles and, along with teammate Martyn Reilly, made the regular journey from Yorkshire to train and represent the club.

Following Martyn’s recent departure, the club has agreed to release Liam from his contract due to the increased demands of travelling alone.

Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “I spoke with Liam after Martyn Reilly left the club, obviously they were travelling partners coming over from Leeds.

“So it was a massive commitment for him to do solo, and he felt he was going to struggle doing that journey on his own.

“It was a difficult conversation, but I really appreciate his honesty, he’s been great for us, and more than anything, he’s a really good person.”

He added: “It’s a real shame to have lost him, but we wish him luck for the future.

“We’ll be looking to get in some of the additions we wanted, but for now, we’ve just got to focus on the players we’ve got with us.”

Everyone at Widnes Vikings would like to thank Liam for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him all the very best for the future.
