Kyle Amor excited by Vikings switch

Kyle Amor insists he is relishing the opportunity to help Widnes Vikings achieve their objectives in 2023.

Amor, a four-time Super League winner during his nine years at St Helens, penned a 12-month deal with the Vikings back in July.

He has already linked up with his new team-mates for pre-season and is hoping to hit the ground running and demonstrate his leadership qualities within the group.

“I’m enjoying the atmosphere around the place, it’s quite exciting,” Amor said.

“I’ve no doubts that I’ll be able to do a good job here. My role is ultimately to play, but also to help the young, inexperienced guys around me.

“I am towards the end of my career, and I’ve had a good few chats with John about my role.”

Having already spent several weeks training with the Vikings, the 35-year-old admits he’s been impressed by what he’s seen from his new team-mates so far.

“There are some strong boys here, I tell you,” he added.

“The technique side of things isn’t quite what it is in Super League, but what they do make up for is the physicality, and the way they apply themselves is second to none.”

“We’ve got through some good work. I always think that pre-season should be referred to as the ‘pretend season’ because everyone is feeling good – there’s no pressure, no stress.

“All you can do as a player is work with the coaching staff, apply yourself, get yourself in the best shape possible and the rest will take care of itself.”

There is little over a month to go until the Vikings take to the field for their first pre-season friendly, as they welcome dual-registration partners Rochdale Hornets to the DCBL Stadium on Sunday 15 January.

And with the new season rapidly approaching, Amor is eager to don Vikings colours and play in front of the supporters for the first time.

“Whenever you sign for a club, you ultimately want to try and please those guys.

“That’s down to us as a collective. If we all train hard, rip in and buy into what we’re doing, then it should look after itself.

“I’m looking forward to playing here. It’s always been a good atmosphere and they’re a passionate crowd.

“I’m led to believe that when the team plays well they’ll come out more and more, so hopefully we can have this place as full as we can in 2023 and put smiles back on faces.”
