Rhodri Lloyd brought the curtain down on his distinguished international career in fitting fashion, scoring in his final appearance for Wales as they defeated Ireland 24-0 at The Gnoll in Neath over the weekend.
The try continues a remarkable pattern for the experienced forward, who also crossed the whitewash in what was his final domestic appearance for the Vikings against London Broncos back in September.
Lloyd’s performance provided the perfect ending to a proud international journey that has seen him represent his country with distinction for over a decade. A leader on and off the field, he has been an influential figure for both club and country, embodying the passion and professionalism that define Welsh Rugby League.
There was also a moment of personal significance for another Widnes representative, as Matty Fozard captained Wales for the first time in his international career.
The hooker led by example throughout the contest, guiding his side to an impressive and dominant victory over their Celtic rivals.
Everyone at Widnes Vikings would like to congratulate both Rhodri and Matty on their achievements and contributions to the Welsh national team, and to once again acknowledge Rhodri’s fantastic service to the sport throughout his career.
