CHESHIRE FIRE SERVICE VISIT GOLDEN GENERATION WITH SURPRISE GUEST
Continuing to forge links with those charged with the care and safety of the local community the Vikings’ Golden Generation – a thriving part of the club’s Sports Foundation – recently played host to members of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service when ‘White Watch’ from Penketh visited us at the DCBL Stadium.
An added bonus for members of the group was the opportunity to meet former Viking Levy Nzongou. Unfortunately, having recovered from a serious knee injury, Levy suffered a career ending ACL injury during pre-season training and was unable to take the field for the Vikings and is now 6 months into his new career as a Firefighter.
An informal presentation from the Firefighters gave an insight into the daily lives of those who come to our rescue in desperate times, whether it be a domestic fire, road accident or supporting the other Emergency Services, while also offering clear advice on keeping us and our property safe and preventing fires.
The advice ranged from the correct installation of smoke alarms, devising an escape route, being vigilant of the common risks such as overloading electrical circuits, and ensuring internal doors are shut overnight. As the Firefighters were ‘on shift’ while carrying out their community visit and could have been called to an emergency at any time we also had an opportunity to get up close and personal with their appliance in the stadium car park.
