Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce details of a special dinner to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the club’s World Club Challenge win.
Wednesday, 4th October 1989 saw the Vikings win the World Club Challenge following a 30-18 victory over Canberra Raiders.
Exactly 35 years to the day on Friday 4th October, we will be hosting a celebration evening, as we get members of that side back together again to give us their thoughts on that great day for the club.
Players from both the wins over Canberra Raiders and the European Championship game with St Esteve will be in attendance.
Attending players will be confirmed in due course.
The event will take place in the Bridge Suite at the DCBL Stadium and includes a two-course meal.
It promises to be another great evening’s entertainment following on from the recent successes of the John Devereux book launch and the Challenge Cup 40th Anniversary Dinner.
Currently, the following players have indicated they will be in attendance:
- Richard Eyres
- Andy Currier
- Darren Wright
- David Hulme
- Paul Hulme
- Barry Dowd
- Phil McKenzie
- Dave Smith
- Derek Pyke
- David Marsh*
- Rick Thackray*
- Mike O’Neill*
* Marsh, Thackray, and O’Neill did not feature in the WCC win but played in the European Championship victory over St Esteve to qualify for the World Club Challenge against Canberra.
