VIKINGS HOLD FIRST ENHANCED DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME SESSION

We held our first Enhanced Development Programme session this past Monday at the DCBL Stadium.

The session was a huge success with over 260 children in attendance from 14 different community clubs.

Vikings Foundation Director, Simon Fox said: “We’ve had an incredible start and welcomed over 260 young people to a Widnes Vikings development camp for the first time in many years.

“Players from 14 community Clubs were represented with the simple aim of being the best version of yourself, with and without the ball.

“The energy, resilience, and commitment on show, to supporting each other, are precisely the values that we encourage. The next 10 weeks will be really exciting to see how every player develops.

“Equally, the support of the 26 coaches and volunteers has been crucial. Every single one of them has put aside club affiliations to give the players a unique rugby experience.

“To see that unity is the very foundation this Club was built on. It’s an exciting future ”

Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “It’s brilliant to see. It’s just so important that we start building our club.

“I get that we need instant success, we’re in the playoff spots and it’s vital we stay there.

“But we also need to do some improvement away from the field, which is building our development area and our youth structure.”

Danny Durbin, Head of Club Development at Halton Farnworth Hornets said: “The flagship club of the town is Widnes Vikings, so to have them putting on things like this is just amazing for the community clubs.”

The sessions will continue to run over the next ten weeks, with weeks 2-8 taking place at Frank Myer Pavilion.
