Location: DCBL Stadium, Widnes (primary) Contract: Full-Time (flexible matchday hours required) Reports to: General Manager Location

About the Role

Widnes Vikings are seeking a creative, driven and highly organised Media Manager to lead and elevate the club’s media output across all platforms.

This is a fast-paced and high-impact role at the heart of a professional rugby league environment. You will capture the energy of matchday, tell authentic stories and drive engagement with supporters, partners and the wider community.

The successful candidate will lead a proactive media strategy that supports the club’s operational and commercial objectives, strengthens its reputation and enhances how the club is seen, heard and experienced — both on and off the field.

Key Responsibilities

Matchday Media

· Lead all media operations on matchdays

· Capture and publish live content across social platforms

· Coordinate photography, video and post-match coverage

· Manage live updates, highlights and key moments

· Support broadcasters and press with media requirements

 

Media & Press

· Generate positive press coverage for the club

· Liaise daily with local, regional and national media

· Manage all press and media enquiries

· Edit and produce the club’s matchday programme, weekly newsletter and Business Club Monthly email packages.

· Maintain strong working relationships with media contacts

· Monitor media trends and adapt strategy accordingly

 

Day-to-Day Content

· Plan and deliver a consistent, high-quality content schedule

· Produce engaging video, graphic and written content

· Manage and grow social media channels

· Capture training sessions, behind-the-scenes content and player features

· Develop compelling storytelling around players, staff, fans and partners

 

Strategy & Growth

· Develop and implement media strategies to grow reach and engagement

· Create content aimed targeted to specific age groups

· Work closely with commercial teams to maximise partner exposure

· Analyse performance data and report on impact

· Identify creative opportunities and emerging trends in sports media

 

Club & Community

· Promote community programmes and club initiatives from our Foundation

· Support sponsorship activation through media coverage

· Strengthen relationships with supporters and key stakeholders

· Contribute to the wider objectives and vision of the club

 

About You

We are looking for someone who:

· Has experience in sports media, digital content or a similar role

· Understands social media trends and audience behaviour

· Can film, edit and produce high-quality photo and video content

· Works confidently under pressure in live sporting environments

· Is proactive, creative and full of ideas

· Has excellent communication and organisational skills

· Has a genuine passion for rugby league or professional sport

 

Desirable Skills & Experience

· Full, clean driving licence

· Ability to manage competing priorities

· Experience managing brand identity across platforms

· Understanding of commercial sponsorship delivery

· Graphic design and motion graphics experience

· Proven track record of delivering creative campaigns aligned to commercial or strategic objectives

· Experience working collaboratively across departments

· Strong written communication and proofreading skills

· Experience using content management systems
