Widnes Vikings are seeking a dedicated and motivated Strength & Conditioning Coach to support the physical performance, development and welfare of our first team squad.
This part-time role involves evening and weekend work and offers an opportunity to contribute to the high-performance environment of a club rich in history and ambition.
Widnes Vikings is a professional rugby league club based in Widnes, Cheshire, competing in the Betfred Championship. Known for our proud Viking heritage and passionate community, the Club is striving to return to the elite level of the sport.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING DELIVERY
- Plan, deliver and monitor high-quality strength, conditioning and athletic development sessions for first team players.
- Assist in designing individualised performance programmes based on player needs, position-specific demands and injury history.
- Support on-field conditioning, speed, agility and power-based sessions during training and match preparation.
- Contribute to prehabilitation and rehabilitation programmes in collaboration with the medical and physiotherapy team.
- Track and analyse physical performance data, GPS metrics and gym testing results to inform training decisions.
PERFORMANCE SUPPORT & ENVIRONMENT
- Work closely with the Head of Performance, coaching staff, and medical department to ensure a cohesive approach to player preparation.
- Provide pitchside support during training sessions and home/away matches where required.
- Support player education around recovery, nutrition, mobility, and professional habits.
- Assist with the setup and maintenance of gym and training equipment, ensuring all environments are safe, organise,d and performance-focused.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
- Experience in strength & conditioning within professional or semi-professional sport.
- Recognised S&C qualifications (e.g. UKSCA accreditation, MSc/BSc in Strength & Conditioning, Sports Science, or related field).
- Strong understanding of athletic development, load management, and performance monitoring.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and engage athletes.
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and matchdays.
DESIRABLE
- Experience working in rugby league or a contact sport environment.
- Knowledge of GPS systems, athlete monitoring software, and performance analysis tools.
- First aid or trauma management qualifications (e.g. IMMOFP/RFL equivalent).
- UKSCA accreditation or working towards accreditation.
HOURS OF WORK
- Part-time position.
- Evening and weekend work is required in line with the rugby calendar and training schedule.
REMUNERATION
- Competitive and dependent on experience.
