VACANCY: HEAD OF STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Head Strength and Conditioning Coach – Men’s Team

Widnes Vikings are looking to recruit a Strength and Conditioning coach to lead the S&C provision for the Men’s team.

The Vikings currently play in the Betfred Championship and are looking for a driven, ambitious individual who wants to contribute to future success.

The Role
  • Develop and deliver the strength and conditioning programme for all of the first team squad, with the goal of athlete development alongside minimising injury risk.
  • Produce and design the periodisation of strength, speed, agility and conditioning programmes for rugby league.
  • Collect and/or assist in the collection of strength diagnostic, biomechanical and various field based physiological assessments.
  • Record and interpret physiological or player related data to evaluate the necessity for intervention, adjustments and/or programme modifications to meet optimal individual performance levels.
  • Devise a comprehensive physical testing programme to monitor the effectiveness of the programme and progression of players (in line with RFL protocols).
  • Implement effective coaching of athletes in proper weightlifting techniques and conditioning practices to aid athlete development.
  • Alongside the Head Coach and coaching staff, plan the season’s training structure to align with the club’s values and targets.
  • Work with the club physiotherapists and medical staff to ensure high-level rehabilitation programmes for injured players.
  • Maintain the following qualifications in addition to those in essential criteria (via the RFL) mental health first aid, safeguarding, DBS, UKAD introduction to clean sport.

Please note this role consists of mainly evening and weekend work.

Criteria

Essential:

  • BSc/MSc in Strength and Conditioning.
  • UKSCA or working towards qualification.
  • Good understanding of the demands and requirements of elite Rugby League.
  • Experience in the effective use of various biomechanical and physiological technologies.
  • Knowledge of interventional strategies to mitigate injury risk in elite level sport.
  • Ability to interpret research and apply to professional practice.
