Widnes Vikings are saddened to learn of the death of former player Johnny Gaydon at his home in Cape Town, aged 83.
In his decade with the club, the South African international winger became a firm favourite amongst the Naughton Park faithful.
He was earmarked as one of the most exciting wingers to play the game of rugby league at the time.
Johnny made his debut against Barrow in October 1961 and went on to make a total of 313 appearances for the Vikings.
During that time, he scored 111 tries, with his final appearance coming against Leeds in 1971.
The club sends its deepest condolences to Johnny’s wife, Jean, and all his family and friends during this difficult time.
