Tom Gilmore signs two year extension

Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that Tom Gilmore has signed a two year extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2028 season.

The Widnes-born scrum-half made his Vikings debut in 2012, and his since amassed 152 appearances over two spells with the club.

On his new deal, Gilmore said: “I’m really happy this is now over the line, and hopefully I can finish my career here at home.

“I’m also happy for my kids, because their favourite part of the week is running onto the pitch after a game and clapping the fans.

“For the rest of the season, I’m looking forward to the big games we have coming up, I’m sure the town will get behind us as they always do.”

“Going into 2027 and 2028, I’m just looking forward to continuing to build year on year.”

Gilmore had spells with Halifax, North Wales, Salford, London, and Batley before returning to the Vikings in 2023, in his time with the club, Gilmore has scored 27 tries, 240 goals, and 11 drop goals, taking his Widnes points tally to 599.

Head coach Allan Coleman said: “I think everyone has seen how good Gilly has been this year, he’s become more of a run threat, been more creative, and he’s just really enjoying his rugby which is a pleasure to see.

“He’s worked really hard in the off season, as fit as he’s been for ages, and just really smart with his rugby now.

“He’s been one of the standout halves in the competition this year, so it was a no brainer to keep him on board.

“Hopefully with some new players in next year, and keeping a lot of the current squad we can kick on from there, and with Tom’s expertise and quality, he’ll guide us to be an even better and more complete team.
