THUNDERBOLT: COMMUNITY TEAM OF THE WEEK

West Bank Bears Under 14s set out at the start of the 2025 campaign with a clear goal: to give everything they had and push their potential as far as possible.

Not only have they achieved that ambition, they have surpassed it—finishing the year with a sensational treble.

The Bears capped off an unforgettable season by becoming National Cup champions, lifting the Lancashire Cup, and securing top spot in Division One.

Their journey has taken them across the country, including trips into Yorkshire to take on some of the strongest sides in the National Cup. Closer to home, they have battled the best teams in the North West through both the Lancashire Cup and Division One fixtures.

In a statement, the club highlighted just how much the players and coaches have poured into this campaign, noting the relentless commitment shown throughout a challenging year. The squad has had to cope with a range of injuries—from broken bones and concussions to cuts, strains, and lost teeth—yet their determination never wavered. Coaches, teammates, and families have also rallied around players facing mental health challenges, demonstrating the strong bond within the group.

For many of these young athletes, West Bank Bears is far more than just a rugby team. It is a vital support system—one built on trust, resilience, and togetherness. Despite facing adversity, including unacceptable behaviour and verbal abuse from the sidelines at times, the players have shown maturity beyond their years, choosing to rise above it and represent their club with pride.

Their success extends beyond matchdays too. Several players have earned scholarships with Super League clubs, while others are progressing on development pathways, taking on additional training to further their growth in the sport.

The club says it couldn’t be prouder of a group it describes as dedicated, hard-working, and exceptionally resilient—young people who have proven that perseverance and commitment lead to reward.

The Bears have also made an impact off the field, raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust by completing a 3,000 push-up challenge. With cancer affecting many families within the squad, the cause holds special meaning for the team.

The achievements of this remarkable group of players stand as a testament to their character both on and off the pitch—and an inspiration to younger athletes looking to follow in their footsteps.
