Following a third victory in three games for the Vikings at home to Dewsbury Rams, it’s time to take a look at how the team are recovering ahead of Sunday’s visit of Newcastle Thunder.
Following Sunday’s win against Dewsbury, we head into another home fixture looking to keep our winning streak going against a Newcastle Thunder side who sit two places below us in 10th the Betfred Championship table.
Our meeting at Kingston Park earlier in the season saw Thunder take the two points with a 12-6 win in front of the Premier Sports cameras with tries from Wigan loanee Sam Halsall and winger Gideon Boafo. Adam Lawton scored the Vikings’ sole try of the game late on but ultimately we left ourselves too much to claw back in the latter stages.
After a hard-fought encounter against Dewsbury Rams at the weekend in head coach John Kear’s first home game in charge, the only knock picked up was for second-rower Shane Grady who will be assessed through the week by the medical staff before a decision is made on his availability for the weekend.
Lloyd Roby has undergone successful ACL surgery and has been back into training in good spirits to start the early stages of his rehab programme. Lloyd will be out of action for between six and nine months.
Ste Tyrer has returned to full running on the field and is hoping to be back in team training within the next couple of weeks.
Josh Johnson is also edging closer to a return to training after sustaining a knee injury in his debut against Whitehaven back in May.
Levy Nzoungou is progressing well with the Strength & Conditioning staff and has this week started more deceleration and change of direction drills with a view to getting more volume in his running programme in the coming weeks.
Eribe Doro is back on the field with the S&C team after sustaining a sternum injury against London. He will be assessed by the club physio who will determine when he will be back available for selection.
Aaron Brown is continuing his rehab programme after suffering from a groin problem. He will also be monitored on a daily basis and will be hoping to return to the side in the near future.
Matty Fozard will miss the clash with Newcastle after picking up a one-match ban from the RFL match review panel for a late hit on the passer in our away victory at Workington Town.
Jake Spedding, Joe Edge, Will Tilleke, Lewis Hulme and Brad Holroyd are all available for selection for this weekend’s game against Newcastle Thunder.
