Widnes Vikings are delighted to welcome Simon Fox as the new Director of the club’s Sports Foundation.
Fox joins the club having most recently served as Community Director at Super League team Castleford Tigers. He has also worked for the likes of Leeds United, Hampshire Cricket, Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos.
On his appointment, Fox commented: “Firstly, I think it’s right to recognise the excellent work by Kellen Wood for the Foundation and I wish him well on his exciting new venture.
“From my perspective coming into the new post, I’m relishing the challenge and looking forward to working with a globally respected Rugby League giant in Widnes Vikings.
“I’ve been fortunate to have worked in sport for over 25 years and aim to bring the right energy, skills, and experience to the new role.
“As a Foundation and club, our objective is clear – extending our community footprint across the Borough and supporting people of all ages and backgrounds, most in need. Doing ‘more good more often’ is what we will stand for and delivering on that promise and detail.”
Community Foundation trustee, Peter Morris said: “Following the departure of Kellen Wood, this is a time of reset for the Foundation.
“Kellen had diligently and enthusiastically taken up the role of acting Foundation head from Cheryl McGivern who served the Foundation with diligence and integrity in the most extreme of circumstances.
“Though it is sad to have lost two talented individuals we confidently look to the future with the appointment of Simon Fox, former head of the Castleford Tigers Foundation.
“From recommendation and his clear wealth of experience, the trustees commissioned Simon to undertake a Community Audit of our Foundation.
“The resulting analysis and recommendations were accepted by the trustees and we are grateful that he has agreed to serve our community and execute the recommendations of the report.
“We are genuinely excited for the future and the change that we can make.”
Vikings Community Foundation Welcome New Trustees
The Foundation also welcome two new trustees to join Peter Morris and Roger Harrison. They are Ste Cash and Nick Calland.
Ste, an electrical engineer, comes to us from a recent background in mental health provision with State of Mind for whom he also serves as a trustee.
Nick is the former head of the Kingscross Project which supported families throughout the borough. He is an experienced counsellor and is the current Widnes Vikings Chaplain.
We intend that these will not be the last appointments and continue to actively look for others willing to step into what is a challenging role.
