Widnes Vikings are proud to support the Riverside and Cronton Thrive for 5 event, which will take place virtually on Friday 1st May.
In previous years, the club have supported the colleges in delivering their Race for Life event at Victoria Park, with an incredible amount raised each year for Cancer Research UK.
Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, an event at Victoria Park can no longer go ahead, so instead the Vikings’ loyal partners are holding a virtual event to ensure that much needed funds are still received.
Charities across the country are experiencing great difficulty during these unprecedented times, with events that would have raised millions of pounds no longer able to go ahead.
That is why the staff and students at Riverside and Cronton College are still dedicating their time to making this year’s Race for Life a virtual success by changing it to Thrive for 5 so everyone can get involved.
Normally, participants would take part in a 5k run, jog or walk around the park and donate a fee to take part. Some participants would donate sponsorship money also, with a number of stalls set up at the finish line to also help raise money.
This year, the colleges are asking you to take on a virtual challenge with the theme centred around the number five. This could see you use your daily exercise hour to run a 5k, challenge yourself to perform as many burpees as possible in five minutes or see how many laps of the living room you can complete.
All you have to do is record a short clip or send a photograph of you performing your challenge, send it to Riverside and Cronton College and donate via the Just Giving page as you would have normally.
This event has become one of the highlights of the local community calendar, so let’s make sure we still make it a huge success by getting creative with our challenges and donating to this great cause.
