This past week we have had the executive boxes at the DCBL Stadium revamped by the Painting and Decorating students at Riverside College.
The students have come in on placement as part of the club’s partnership with Riverside College to provide them with valuable work experience.
It was fantastic to have them in this week as we are committed to ensuring our sponsors get the most out of our partnerships and the P&D students did a brilliant job.
Head of Operations, Chris Hamilton said: “Our fans know that Riverside College are one of our key partners and when I mentioned to them the opportunity to get some work experience at the stadium, they jumped at the opportunity.
“The stadium management have been really helpful in accommodating this project to refresh the look of the boxes on the Executive level and we are very thankful to Bell Group who take on apprentices and Brewers who provide the paint.
“The tutors and students from Riverside College were extremely enthusiastic and hopefully this is something we can repeat in the future.”
As a Riverside College student and Bell Group apprentice, Vikings player Joe Edge was also on-site helping redecorate the boxes.
He said: “It was great to take the skills we have been learning both in college and at work, then contribute in a workplace environment for the benefit of the full-time students.”
Level one student, Ruby Taylor said: “This was a really good work experience and I learned a lot from the staff on site. I really enjoyed the work.”
Lee Coombes at Halton Borough Council added: “Halton Borough Council is delighted to work in partnership with the Widnes Vikings and Riverside College.
“The painting and decorating students have done an amazing job of bringing the executive box level back to life in a very short period of time.
“We hope this partnership continues to flourish.”
