REPORT: YORK KNIGHTS 39-6 WIDNES VIKINGS

The Vikings bowed out of the 1895 Cup this afternoon after a heavy 39-6 defeat to York Knights at the LNER Community Stadium.

Allan Coleman’s side couldn’t recover from a slow start that saw them trail 16-0 after 15 minutes as they dropped out of the 1895 Cup at the Quarter Final stage.

York took the lead after just three minutes as a spilled kick from Jack Owens was pounced on by Liam Harris to score.

Two quickfire tries would follow as Scott Galeano took a looping pass to score out wide before Paul McShane caught the defence napping to cut inside and score.

Trailing by three scores the Vikings pulled one back through Ryan Ince as he crossed out wide but that was the only time the Vikings would really trouble the Knights’ defence.

York grabbed another on the stroke of half time through Kieran Buchanan, which would serve as a marker for the second half as the hosts took control.

Jordan Thompson crashed over from close range to open the Knights’ second half account which was followed up with a second try for Galeano following a blind side switch.

Jack Martin scored the final try of the afternoon for the hosts before Harris added a drop goal to compound a miserable afternoon for the Vikings as they fell to a 39-6 defeat.

We look to bounce back next Sunday at the DCBL Stadium against Barrow Raiders in Round Six of the Betfred Championship. Tickets are available HERE.
