The Vikings fell to a 12-6 defeat to York Knights at the DCBL Stadium this afternoon.
Allan Coleman’s side could not find a leveling score in the final stages of a game that saw just two tries scored.
The visitors started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead with a penalty from Nikau Williams.
The lead was then extended as Ata Hingano’s deep kick took a wicked bounce over the head of Jack Owens and into the arms of Brad Ward who fed Joe Law to score under the posts.
A penalty for offside saw the visitors add another two points to establish a 10-0 lead at the break.
The Vikings hit back through Mike Butt as he grounded a grubber kick in the corner to cut the deficit to six.
Shortly after another error from the Vikings was followed up with a penalty as the Knights added another goal to move into a two-score lead.
The visitors were reduced to 12 just past the hour mark as Jacob Gannon was shown red for a bad high tackle on Butt.
Tom Gilmore slotted over a penalty goal with 10 minutes to go to bring the Vikings within one score but they couldn’t find the crucial try as they fell to a 12-6 defeat.
The Vikings turn their attention to an away game next Sunday as we take on Doncaster at the Eco-Power Stadium. Tickets available HERE
COACHES COMMENTS
Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “I’m gutted. It was a great game with lots of intensity. It felt like a playoff game.
“I thought the effort was there from my team, they worked hard but they made a lot of errors.
“York were very good, their line speed was great and they were very aggressive. I just thought they were smarter than us.”
