Widnes Vikings kicked off their 2024 pre-season in convincing fashion, defeating Workington Town 42-0 yesterday.
Eight tries from seven different try scorers saw the Vikings to a comfortable victory on Sunday afternoon.
Ollie Brookes opened the scoring as he collected Jack Owens’ cut-out pass to dive in at the corner.
Rhodri Lloyd scored the next try, backing up Jordan Johnstone’s break to go in under the posts before Ollie Brookes grabbed his second to put the Vikings 16-0 up at Half-Time.
We extended our lead just five minutes into the second half as Joe Lyons crossed over, latching on to the loose ball from a kick to score.
Ant Walker then powered his way over just past the hour mark as the Vikings stretched their lead to 28-0.
Jack Owens scored next as he ran in under the posts, before turning provider with a kick for Kieran Dixon to cross in the corner.
Man of the Match, Max Roberts sealed the win as he forced his way over out wide to put the Vikings up 42-0.
The Vikings face Whitehaven at the DCBL Stadium next Sunday 14 January in Jack Owens’ testimonial fixture.

Post-match, Allan Coleman said: “I think the most important thing was to get through injury-free.
“There were a couple of occasions we had three back-to-back sets on our line, and it’s difficult when you’re back to back. I just thought we showed a lot of hunger and character.
“I was impressed with both half-backs and back-rows, Wilde and Gilly on one side and Joey and Rhodri on the other.
“The way they worked on defence complemented our centres and outside backs, so that was really exciting.”
