REPORT: HUNSLET 14-28 WIDNES VIKINGS

The Vikings returned to winning ways with a 28-14 victory over Hunslet at the South Leeds Stadium.

Allan Coleman’s side made a bright start, taking the lead after just five minutes when Matty Fozard dummied his way through the defence.

Moments later, Danny Langtree extended the advantage to 12 points, backing up a break from Joe Edge to cross the line.

Just past the 20-minute mark, the Vikings pulled further ahead as Mike Butt finished off a sweeping move from left to right to score out wide.

Hunslet responded on the stroke of half-time, with Mackenzie Scurr finishing off a move to reduce the deficit to 14 points at the break.

The hosts carried that momentum into the second half, with tries from Lachlan Hannaghan and Coby Nichol bringing them back within four points.

However, any concerns of a Vikings collapse were quickly dispelled. The influential Fozard burrowed over for his second of the game to restore a two-score cushion.

With their lead re-established, the Vikings sealed the win late on as Butt bagged his brace, taking a neat flick from Jack Owens to round off a much-needed 28-14 victory.

We turn our attention to a big clash against Featherstone Rovers at the DCBL Stadium. Tickets are available HERE.
