Report: Dewsbury Rams 10-20 Widnes Vikings

Widnes Vikings returned to winning ways with a 20-10 victory over Dewsbury Rams at FLAIR Stadium.

It took just eight minutes for Widnes to open the scoring, the ball moved nicely up the right edge towards Ryan Ince, who produced a tidy finish in the corner.

The Vikings consolidated their advantage when Max Roberts exploited a gap in the line and handed off to Lewis Hall, who raced in under the posts. The extras were added for a 10-0 lead.

Ince then soon doubled his try tally for the afternoon, Jack Owens powering towards the Rams line and flicking the ball out to Ince, who initially stumbled but quickly regained his balance to dive in the corner.

Widnes’ first-half scoring wasn’t finished there. A clever kick from Jordan Abdull 15m out fell gracefully into the hands of Nathan Connell to crash over, with the boot of Abdull giving the Vikings a 20-0 lead at the interval.

In the second half the Rams came out swinging, and in the 54th minute, Daniel Coates took an offload and beat a couple of Widnes defenders to crash over and open their account for the afternoon.

It took Dewsbury another 13 minutes to score again. They moved the ball from right to left, and Brad Graham found a gap in the Vikings defence to fashion a try.

The extras were added to cut the Vikings’ lead to 10, but that capped the scoring action for the afternoon as Allan Coleman’s side held on to clinch the victory.
